* Pioneering Public/Private Partnership To Address District's Environmental Challenges -- At No Cost To Taxpayers
* Sponsorship Underscores DaimlerChrysler's Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

WASHINGTON, June 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DaimlerChrysler announced today its sponsorship of the nation's first EcoZone(TM) in the District of Columbia. EcoZone is an exclusive public/private partnership designed to fund solutions that can measurably improve the local environment -- at no cost to taxpayers.
"DaimlerChrysler is pleased to be part of this unique partnership of business, government and individuals to help raise resources to take on the environmental challenges that face cities today," said John Bozzella, Vice President - External Affairs and Public Policy, Americas, DaimlerChrysler Corporation.

This sponsorship underscores DaimlerChrysler's commitment to environmental stewardship, including development of an array of advanced technologies to reduce the automobile's impact on the environment. Among the corporation's environmental goals are:

* Reducing the nation's dependence on oil.
* Improving fuel economy.
* Reducing tailpipe emissions and emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
* Supporting American-produced alternative fuels.

Two unique DaimlerChrysler technologies were on display during ceremonies today marking the launch of the Washington, D.C., EcoZone.

DaimlerChrysler Orion VII diesel-electric hybrid buses significantly reduce emissions and provide for higher fuel economy than conventional diesel buses. With over 10 million miles logged in major cities such as New York, Toronto and San Francisco, these vehicles are providing cleaner, smarter transit service in urban areas.

GEM neighborhood electric vehicles, the nation's leading street-legal, zero emission electric vehicles, have been proven to significantly improve air quality by eliminating trips in conventional vehicles. More than 30,000 GEMs are in use nationwide and internationally.

"The EcoZone program complements our commitment to developing vehicles that have less impact on our environment," Bozzella said.

DaimlerChrysler's advanced technology vehicles support the efforts of cities to reduce the environmental impact of their vehicle fleets, including: * The Orion VII diesel-electric hybrid bus greatly reduces emissions with up to 90 percent less particulate matter, 40 percent less NOx and 25 percent fewer greenhouse gases. Along with 35 percent increased fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, this vehicle is the ideal solution for urban transit. * Hybrid passenger vehicles, beginning with the Dodge Durango in 2008. * The Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee, which will be available in gasoline, diesel and Flexible Fuel Vehicle (E85 ethanol fuel) capable models in 2007. * E85-capable Dodge Stratus sedans, minivans and Dodge Ram pickups. DaimlerChrysler has sold about 1.5 million FFVs, and will market more than 250,000 in 2007 and nearly 500,000 in 2008. * The Dodge Ram diesel pickup, which is approved to run on B20 (20 percent biodiesel fuel) beginning this fall. Diesel vehicles improve fuel economy an average of 30 percent and reduce carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions up to 20 percent. DaimlerChrysler vehicles are capable of running on renewable, American-produced biodiesel fuel, which further reduces dependence on oil and greenhouse gas emissions. * Improved gasoline engines, including the HEMI with Multiple Displacement System that improves fuel economy up to 20 percent. * Fuel cell vehicles. DaimlerChrysler has more than 100 fuel cell-powered cars, vans and buses in use worldwide.

"DaimlerChrysler clearly sees the value and broad environmental impact that city-wide initiatives can deliver," said Paul Polizzotto, founder and chief executive officer, EcoMedia/EcoZone. "We are thrilled to add DaimlerChrysler as the exclusive automotive sponsor of EcoZone."

The District of Columbia's designation as an EcoZone comes from an agreement with EcoMedia, a leading environmental media company that brings together government and industry to develop solutions to pressing environmental issues. The initiative is funded solely through corporate sponsorships, with half of all EcoZone(TM) revenues generated from educational outdoor signage going to fund the District's environmental and clean energy projects in each of the EcoZone's four signature areas: air, energy, water, and greenspace.

EcoZone also leverages program sponsorships to fund, produce and administer comprehensive public education and environmental outreach programs, including local cable television and radio public service commercials, grassroots education campaigns, branded merchandise, local community events and online media.
